Crippling amounts of money and endless man-hours were spent on the development of the Fat Man portable nuclear weapon system. The military propaganda machine paraded it as the ultimate feat of tactical nuclear engineering. Soldiers rolled their eyes and sighed because operators in the field had come up with a better weapon from off-the-shelf parts years before.
Field expedients have been a part of warfare since the first desperate caveman picked up a stick and hit somebody with it to avoid losing a fistfight; no sooner had the ubiquitous fusion core entered service than soldiers figured out how to make it explode. Some found exploits in their power armor that would cause the core to overload and force the failsafes to jettison it, leaving a nasty surprise for pursuers.
Others, however, discovered that it was almost the right size to fit the business end of a standard shoulder-launched missile. By taking off the outer casing and doing some careful squeezing, they got it to fit; a little extra circuitry to make the overload happen just right, and suddenly they had a nuclear missile on their hands. When the Fat Man was rolled out, it was a big disappointment by comparison.
There are even rumors that Nuka Cola Quantum contains a powerful nuclear fuel that can increase the effectiveness of any atomic weapon.
This mod adds the triple fusion barrel and triple quantum barrel missile launcher mods at the weapon bench, as well as craftable missiles, fusion core missiles, and quantum fusion core missiles at the chem bench.
To use:
Acquire the Gun Nut 4, Science 4, and Nuclear Physicist 1 perks. For Quantum missiles, find the secrets of Nuka Cola Quantum in Nuka World (this mod requires the DLC.) Craft the Triple Fusion Barrel or Triple Quantum Barrel mod and apply it to your missile launcher. Finally, craft your ammunition; start by crafting ordinary missiles, then upgrade them with fusion cores and finally Quantum, then enjoy.
Warning: DO NOT USE WITH A TARGETING COMPUTER. This will use up your expensive nuclear missiles but you’ll get a boring old grenade explosion. The only way I could fix it would be to make a special targeting computer for each type of ammo. Instead, I just made them guided out of the box. As a side benefit, you can use a scope to lock on to your targets. Have fun!
